Thu 30*Ongoing* *Education Majors Only* Cancer Alliance Network Needs Student Teachers to Assist with High School Volunteer ProgramThe Cancer Alliance Network is a local non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to local cancer patients during their treatment. We have a high school volunteer program called KidsCAN. This program is made up of local high school students who help fundraise for our organization as well as seek donations of money and items to help provide Thanksgiving meals to local cancer families, host a holiday party with gifts, games, food, etc. for local cancer families, help host a family staycation for local cancer families, and many other activities during the school year. We are looking for one or two students on the path to becoming teachers to help with communication and management of this program. This volunteer opportunity requires a commitment to help throughout the Lee and Collier county school year for 2025-2026. Volunteers will be required to attend regular KidsCAN meetings and help with notes and sending a recap to students, as well as helping organize donation drives and fundraisers along with students, and participating in volunteer opportunities with KidsCAN students. Some meetings will be available virtually, but most of the work will be required in-person. The majority of the in-person time will be at our Bonita Springs office (3384 Woods Edge Circle, Suite 102 Bonita Springs, FL 34134). There are a few instances where the volunteer address will also be Naples, Estero, and Fort Myers. Times will be scheduled in advance but determined by the date of events. We are a historic botanical garden and zoological park that provides long term nurturing homes for exotic and local wildlife. Education Table volunteers will staff a table near a designated animal habitat or garden venue, greeting guests and providing information and/or simple activities for public visitors. Areas of choice include parrots, alligators, flamingos, orchids, pollinators, and more. Talking points, objects of interest, and activity supplies are provided. A Community Partnership School utilizes four pillars- expanded learning, wellness supports, family and community engagement, and collaborative leadership- to focus its efforts in addressing barriers to success such as hunger, poverty, lack of access to adequate health care, lack of educational supports, and other challenges the community faces, as identified by the community. We are currently focused on House Bill 1365, a law that has significant implications for how our state addresses homelessness and housing issues. Joining our committee gives you the opportunity to research legislation, engage with elected officials, and advocate for more compassionate and effective solutions. FGCU volunteers will provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in core subjects—particularly science and reading—while also serving as positive role models. In addition to academic support, volunteers will assist with a variety of enrichment activities, including student-led clubs, arts and crafts, sports, and games. These structured stations are designed to promote creativity, collaboration, and confidence among students. Volunteers will work closely with YMCA staff to ensure programming is inclusive, engaging, and aligned with the developmental needs of middle schoolers. This is a valuable opportunity for FGCU students to gain hands-on experience in youth mentorship, education, and community engagement—while making a lasting impact on our Fort Myers Middle School students. What are we looking for?: SART(Sexual Assault Response Team) volunteers are trained victim advocates who respond in person when a survivor presents for a forensic exam, within 120 hours (5 days) of an assault. As part of our on-call rotation, you’ll accompany survivors at our office in our forensic exam room or local hospitals, offering emotional support, information about their rights and options, and helping them feel less alone during the exam process. SART volunteers must be able to respond in person when called during their assigned on-call shifts. Again, no experience is necessary—just compassion, reliability, and a willingness to show up when someone truly needs support. Full training is provided, and staff are always available for guidance. Volunteers are on call 24/7 during their assigned day(s). Safety Participation: I acknowledge that I have made any necessary inquiries or provided the necessary information to the University regarding my ability, physically or otherwise, to safely participate in the Activity and that, prior to executing this Release, I have been provided the opportunity to inquire and discuss the possible risks and hazards to myself resulting from participating in the Activity. Any questions I had regarding my ability to participate in the Activity have been answered to my satisfaction, and I have received sufficient information to make a sound and voluntary decision to participate in the Activity. I acknowledge there are additional risks in participating in face-to-face experiential learning at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I acknowledge that I have chosen to voluntarily engage in face-to-face experiential learning. Waiver of Liability and Assumption of Risks: In exchange for the University making arrangements for, permitting my participating in Compost program at the FGCU Food Forest, I hereby assume all risks of my participation in the Activity. Risks include, but are not limited to, risks of participation in the various components of the Activity, and all risks related to any physical or other condition from which I might suffer. I acknowledge that the University does not provide personal accident/health insurance or medical personnel for myself. I authorize the FGCU staff to perform on site emergency first aid. I authorize FGCU staff to contact local emergency medical care services in the event of a medical emergency. I assume personal and financial responsibility for any medical care and treatment I may require as the result of participating in the Activity. I acknowledge that this Release applies to all medical care and treatment that is provided or obtained by the University as a result of my participation in the Activity. In exchange for the University allowing me to participate in the Activity and having reviewed and agreed to all acknowledgements listed in this Release and Waiver, I, on behalf of my family, heirs, beneficiaries, and personal representatives agree to assume all the risks and responsibilities of my participating in the Activity. Tue 30*Ongoing* McGregor Clinic Needs Community Outreach Volunteers in Lee CountyStudents will assist with preparation for community outreach activities in the Lee County area. Students will have one-on-one interactions with community members, low-income populations, homeless populations in some aspects, and young adults. Students will assist in preparing promotional items such as condoms, pamphlets, and swag items for outreach activities. The Mcgregor Clinic serves as an HIV/STI clinic offering free testing and treatment for STI/HIV infections. A typical shift would be 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, or whatever the student is willing to cover, with some events happening on weekends and evenings.
