Thu 30*Ongoing* *Education Majors Only* Cancer Alliance Network Needs Student Teachers to Assist with High School Volunteer ProgramThe Cancer Alliance Network is a local non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to local cancer patients during their treatment. We have a high school volunteer program called KidsCAN. This program is made up of local high school students who help fundraise for our organization as well as seek donations of money and items to help provide Thanksgiving meals to local cancer families, host a holiday party with gifts, games, food, etc. for local cancer families, help host a family staycation for local cancer families, and many other activities during the school year. We are looking for one or two students on the path to becoming teachers to help with communication and management of this program. This volunteer opportunity requires a commitment to help throughout the Lee and Collier county school year for 2025-2026. Volunteers will be required to attend regular KidsCAN meetings and help with notes and sending a recap to students, as well as helping organize donation drives and fundraisers along with students, and participating in volunteer opportunities with KidsCAN students. Some meetings will be available virtually, but most of the work will be required in-person. The majority of the in-person time will be at our Bonita Springs office (3384 Woods Edge Circle, Suite 102 Bonita Springs, FL 34134). There are a few instances where the volunteer address will also be Naples, Estero, and Fort Myers. Times will be scheduled in advance but determined by the date of events. We are a historic botanical garden and zoological park that provides long term nurturing homes for exotic and local wildlife. Education Table volunteers will staff a table near a designated animal habitat or garden venue, greeting guests and providing information and/or simple activities for public visitors. In addition to academic support, volunteers will assist with a variety of enrichment activities, including student-led clubs, arts and crafts, sports, and games. These structured stations are designed to promote creativity, collaboration, and confidence among students. Volunteers will work closely with YMCA staff to ensure programming is inclusive, engaging, and aligned with the developmental needs of middle schoolers. This is a valuable opportunity for FGCU students to gain hands-on experience in youth mentorship, education, and community engagement—while making a lasting impact on our Fort Myers Middle School students. About Project Help: We aim to provide every member of our community, regardless of age, financial status, ethnicity, and identity. With access to our 24-hour Crisis and Referral Hotline, Sexual Assault Response Services, Crime Victim Advocacy, Sudden Death Response, and Crisis Intervention Services. We strive to give a voice to all those affected by violence, sudden death, and trauma. What are we looking for?: SART(Sexual Assault Response Team) volunteers are trained victim advocates who respond in person when a survivor presents for a forensic exam, within 120 hours (5 days) of an assault. As part of our on-call rotation, you’ll accompany survivors at our office in our forensic exam room or local hospitals, offering emotional support, information about their rights and options, and helping them feel less alone during the exam process. SART volunteers must be able to respond in person when called during their assigned on-call shifts. Again, no experience is necessary—just compassion, reliability, and a willingness to show up when someone truly needs support. Full training is provided, and staff are always available for guidance. Volunteers are on call 24/7 during their assigned day(s). We are currently looking to fill open shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but are happy to consider availability on other days as well. Our website is designed to showcase our services and connect parents and the community to resources and tools to assist their special needs children in their natural environment. IMPACT is in need of students who are capable of updating and maintaining a website to announce enrollment and career opportunities, showcase the work and accomplishments of the students, and offer tips and suggestions in caring for and teaching special needs children outside of the classroom; and updating social media sites like Facebook. In addition to our Special Needs population, we also serve typical children ages 3 to 6 in a least restrictive environment, and provide Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapy to children with Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Students will have one-on-one interactions with community members, low-income populations, homeless populations in some aspects, and young adults. We will walk the sidewalks, medians, parks, and green spaces to collect any discarded items and properly dispose of them. Items will be sorted for recycling. Part of our mission, vision, and values is to care for the environment and educate the community on the importance of sustainability. This event is on Saturday, October 11 in Babcock Ranch. The event starts with a safety and strategy talk at 8:00am and debris collection to follow. We meet in the parking lot of the Babcock Ranch Field House near the football field in Babcock Ranch. "Wonder Gardens After Dark" on October 11, 2025, is a family friendly community-building Halloween event that includes fun, educational activities and games with a message of conservation. Students can support by volunteering on event day (set-up, registration, water stations, cheering participants) or helping in the weeks leading up to the event with outreach, logistics, and awareness efforts. This event is hosted by the American Cancer Society, a nationwide, community-based health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Our mission is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. Funds raised support groundbreaking research, free patient programs, and access to lifesaving screenings and care.
