Thank you for your interest! We are seeking FGCU students to assist with our upcoming event, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Southwest Florida, scheduled for October 26, 2025. Students can support by volunteering on event day (set-up, registration, water stations, cheering participants) or helping in the weeks leading up to the event with outreach, logistics, and awareness efforts. This event is hosted by the American Cancer Society, a nationwide, community-based health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Our mission is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. Funds raised support groundbreaking research, free patient programs, and access to lifesaving screenings and care. We would love to partner with FGCU students who are passionate about community service and making a meaningful impact. Students are welcome to attend when they can—there are no required shifts, and they do not need to stay for the entire event. A Community Partnership School is both a physical place, as well as a set of partnerships between a school and community resources. A Community Partnership School utilizes four pillars- expanded learning, wellness supports, family and community engagement, and collaborative leadership- to focus its efforts in addressing barriers to success such as hunger, poverty, lack of access to adequate health care, lack of educational supports, and other challenges the community faces, as identified by the community. Through eliminating these barriers to resources for students, staff, families, and the community, the Community Partnership Schools’ goal is to increase the chances of student success and well-being. Volunteers will have a unique opportunity to contribute to programming through hands on experiences with students, staff, and the community, which supports students from undeserved communities, creating a meaningful and lasting impact on their lives. Volunteers will assist in various opportunities from stocking food in the food pantry to organizing and distributing clothing, hygiene items, and school supplies. This service benefits the students and provides volunteers with a sense of fulfillment, personal growth, and the rewarding experience of making a difference. The CPS team will accommodate any volunteer according to their availability. Give back to the community.  Get service-learning hours. Develop your leadership skills. Be a Day of Service Site Leader! The FGCU Office of Service-Learning & Civic Engagement is in need of students to serve as site leaders during the WOW Day of Service. Site leaders will help lead a service trip with roughly 25 student participants per site.  You will work together with one or two additional site leaders to lead your site location. Locations will vary and transportation is provided. Learn more about the Day of Service event here.  The event runs 8am-1pm.  However, we ask site leaders to arrive at 7am to help with setup and plan to stay until 2pm to help with any teardown that may be needed.  You will engaged in 7 hours of service-learning toward your graduation requirement.     You must attend a short training session. REGISTER BY AUGUST 15:  RSVP HERE ***Pre-Registration Required ---------------------------------------- Join this exciting FGCU tradition and take part in Weeks of Welcome (WOW) Day of Service on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM! There's no better way to make friends and get connected to FGCU and the SWFL community than by spending a morning together serving others. TIMELINE OF THE DAY: 8:00am:  Check-in at the FGCU Student Plaza Bus Loop 8:30am:  Kickoff and depart on buses 9:00am:  Serve at sites across the SWFL community 12:00pm: Wrap-Up 12:15pm: Depart sites 12:45pm-1:00pm:  Arrive back at FGCU and have lunch together while reflecting on your day! MANDATORY PRE-EVENT CHECK-IN: All participants must check-in prior to the morning of the event. You will be assigned to a site at this time (assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis!). Pre-event check-in will be open August 18-20 between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM in McTarnaghan Hall 229.  A list of sites can be found below. IMPORTANT: Anyone under 18 MUST bring a signed copy of your waiver with you (signed by a parent or legal guardian). If we do not receive your waiver, you will not be able to participate in the event. Please note that if you do not check-in by 4:30 PM on Wednesday, August 20, your space will be released to students on the waitlist.   GROUPS: If you have friends (or a group) that you would like to serve with at the same site, each person must RSVP in Eagle Link and check-in at our office between August 21-23. Please arrange to pre-check-in as a group because site capacities are limited and we are unable to hold spaces.   TRANSPORTATION: Transportation will be provided. We will meet in the FGCU Student Plaza/Bus Loop promptly at 8am. Buses depart at 8:30am.   IMPORTANT: Once you RSVP and pre-check-in, your community agency is fully counting on you to be there that morning, so please be 100% sure you can attend before committing!   ATTIRE AND WHAT TO BRING: Please wear either an FGCU shirt or blue and green to represent the university out in the community!
