- Sep 277:45 AMVolunteers Needed for Middle School Program- GEMSWe, the Whitaker Institute for STEM Education at FGCU, are involved with STEM outreach and education in the SWFL community. Each year, we host several GEMS events (Growing in Engineering, Math, and Science) for middle school students. The students attend two hands-on workshops led by STEM faculty during this half-day program. We are in need of FGCU student volunteers to assist the faculty member or external STEM professional in their activity. In each room, there are multiple FGCU student volunteers with a ratio of about 1 FGCU student to 2-3 middle school students. This ensures that the children will be able to progress through the lab activities while also providing them with another positive role model in STEM. PLEASE RSVP TO VOLUNTEER BY September 19, 2025! Volunteers are expected to: *Attend September 26, 2025 from 4:00pm - 5:30pm for orientation. *Arrive at 7:45am on September 27, 2025 to help with set up. Activities end at 12:30pm.
