The FGCU STEM Academy improves students' prospects by exposing young minds to careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and by helping them improve math skills. We seek enthusiastic, patient, and responsible individuals to join us as Camp Counselors. As a counselor, you will have the opportunity to have fun, gain valuable leadership experience, and earn service-learning hours. This is an innovative sports play program for children ages 2-7 with intellectual disabilities and their peers, designed to introduce them into the world of sports. The benefits to this program have been proven worldwide. First and foremost, these activities will help the children improve physically, cognitively and socially. This program will also raise awareness of the Special Olympics program and serve as an introduction to the resources and support available within Special Olympics Florida families, agencies and schools. Volunteers will act as play pals for children with/without disabilities for children between the ages of 2-7. The volunteers will need to be their 30 minutes before the start of the session for debrief, training and overview of the day. Volunteers will also need to stay 30 minutes after the session ends for clean up and reorganization.
