- Jun 252:30 PM*Ongoing* *On-Campus* Volunteers Needed to Assist the Special Olympics as a Play Pal!This is an innovative sports play program for children ages 2-7 with intellectual disabilities and their peers, designed to introduce them into the world of sports. The benefits to this program have been proven worldwide. First and foremost, these activities will help the children improve physically, cognitively and socially. This program will also raise awareness of the Special Olympics program and serve as an introduction to the resources and support available within Special Olympics Florida families, agencies and schools. Volunteers will act as play pals for children with/without disabilities for children between the ages of 2-7. The volunteers will need to be their 30 minutes before the start of the session for debrief, training and overview of the day. Volunteers will also need to stay 30 minutes after the session ends for clean up and reorganization. Volunteers are needed on Mondays and Wednesdays of June from 2:30-4:30 PM (2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 18th, 23rd, and 25th) Volunteers are asked to serve the entire time! - Jun 276:15 AM*Guided Trip* Count Baby Turtles at Lover's Key!*Transportation Provided*Join Katie at Lovers Key State Park, select participants will shadow a park ranger while they conduct a sea turtle nesting survey. Please not that only a small handful of those who volunteer will get to shadow the park ranger, the rest will be conducting trail maintenance around the park. Participants are expected to wear walking shoes, weather appropriate attire, any sun protection they would like, and their own refillable water bottle. The event will feature over 300 cars, live entertainment on three stages, food trucks, art vendors, and a special youth boxing exhibition to raise funds for community programs. Volunteer Needs for FGCU Students:We are seeking enthusiastic FGCU students to assist with key areas during the Cars On 1st event, including: Event Setup and Breakdown: Assisting vendors, setting up tables, signage, and tents. Guest Registration and Check-in: Managing attendee entry points and verifying credentials. Hospitality and VIP Lounge Support: Assisting in the VIP Tent with guest services and sponsor engagement. Stage and Entertainment Coordination: Helping performers and managing entertainment schedules. Parking and Traffic Flow Assistance: Helping with wayfinding and parking guidance. Vendor and Sponsor Assistance: Supporting vendors with logistics and needs throughout the event. Social Media Content Support: Helping capture photos, videos, and live updates during the event. General Event Operations: Providing backup support in any needed area to ensure smooth execution. - Jul 26 – Aug 1Volunteers Needed as Counselors at MDA Summer CampMuscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is the #1 voluntary health organization in the United States for people living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases. For over 70 years, MDA has led the way in accelerating research, advancing care, and advocating for the support of our families. MDA's mission is to empower the people we serve to live longer, more independent lives. As an MDA Summer Camp volunteer, you will be by a campers’ sides day and night as you participate in adaptive camp experiences, games, dances, mealtime and more, during the weeklong, overnight program. Volunteers work with campers, providing around-the-clock care and support with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, and more. Counselors meet the daily needs of each child and provide emotional support while facilitating friendships and serving as role models. Volunteering at MDA Summer Camp will also: Provide life-changing experiences and memories to last a lifetime. Enrich your life & inspire you in new ways. Boost your resume with unique, real-world experience. Earn up to 144 verified volunteer hours. Requirements for volunteers: At least 17 years old. Of sufficient ability to lift and care for campers and assist with campers' personal care. Must be able to independently lift 25 pounds. Commit to attending the entire week of MDA Summer Camp. Completed online application through UltraCamp system. Criminal Background Check through Sterling Volunteers. Interview with MDA Staff. Two Professional References. Provide record of physical examination completed within 12 months of camp and a current immunization record.
