Southwest Florida Library Network is looking for FGCU students who are tech savvy to assist them at the Makerpalooza event on Friday, September 12th from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM (Need assistance especially from 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM). This event will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton at Bell Tower in Fort Myers.   Volunteer responsibilities will include: Tech Playground Support (1:30–2:30 PM): Demonstrating and assisting attendees with various hands-on technology tools such as drones, 3D pens, button makers, Sphero robots, and more. Volunteers will help facilitate engagement and guide participants through using the equipment. General Event Support (Beginning at 8:30 AM): Assisting with check-in and registration, Handing out materials to attendees. 🐾 Distractions on the Playground Date & Time: Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 6:00–7:30 PM 📍 Location: Gulf Coast Playground (behind Ron Jon Surf Shop & south of Bass Pro Shop, 10040 Gulf Center Drive) Details: Volunteers will play, shout, and run around like kids again to help Dogs Inc. train dogs to ignore playground distractions. Volunteers will also handle dogs to help them get used to strangers. 👥 Volunteers Needed: 4   🐶 Shopping Distractions Training Date & Time: Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 6:00–7:30 PM 📍 Location: Cape Coral Target (2430 Santa Barbara Blvd, Cape Coral) Details: Be a distraction while dogs train to focus in a real-world shopping environment. Activities include dropping items, making noise, and trying to get the dog's attention while they stay focused. 👥 Volunteers Needed: 4   ⚽ Soccer, Basketball & Snack Distractions Date & Time: Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 6:00 – 7:30 PM 📍 Location: Fort Myers Library (2450 First Street, outside main entrance) Details: Bring a soccer ball and basketball to play near the dogs. Volunteers will also sit and snack around the dogs to help with distraction training. 👥 Volunteers Needed: 6   🎃 Halloween Parade with Dogs Inc. Date & Time: Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 6:00–7:30 PM 📍 Location: Meet in costume outside Fort Myers Library (2450 First Street) Details: Dress up and walk with the dogs in the Halloween Parade downtown. Project Access is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing on-site health, education, and employment services to families living in affordable housing communities. Our mission is to build stronger communities by supporting residents on their path to self-sufficiency. They are looking for FGCU students who may be interested in getting involved in assisting with youth programs (tutoring, homework help, enrichment), supporting adult workshops (health, financial literacy, job readiness), helping with community events, and providing program support.
