- Sep 195:00 PMCooking 101: Chicken AlfredoHey foodies, join us for our first event as we make Chicken Alfredo! On this Day, we will teach the basics of making pasta, specifically fettuccine, in a guided, instructional-based atmosphere. Space and ingredients are limited, so reserve your spot as soon as possible. If you have any questions about the dress code or the recipe, don't hesitate to contact the club's email, cookingclubfgcu@gmail.com, or the Cooking Club president, sasantolopez5832@eagle.fgcu.edu. Disclaimer: Although reservations are open to faculty and students employed or enrolled at FGCU, there will be a strict 30-person maximum capacity in the culinary lab. Gloves, lab coats, and other relevant personal protective equipment will be provided by the club for up to 30 people. You will not be allowed into the lab if you do not follow the proper dress code. Late arrivals also risk having their reservations taken by waitlisted people. Dress code: Knees, shoulders, midriff, and toes should be covered at all times. Additionally, long hair should be tied back. Hair ties and coat hangers will be provided. What to bring: You only need to bring yourself and the proper dress code. Allergy notice: Chicken Alfredo is a beloved Italian-American dish traditionally crafted with fettuccine pasta, heavy cream, various cheeses, and chicken. For this event, a pasta made from scratch using flour and eggs will be made and accompanied by grilled chicken breast, unsalted butter, Parmesan, and Romano cheese. Please note that dairy, eggs, and gluten will be present during the event. - Sep 163:30 PMFrom Campus to Kitchen: Join Community Cooperative to Make Stuffing KitsJoin Community Cooperative for a special Pop-Up Stuffing Event on Tuesday, September 16th from 3:30–6:00 pm at Sam’s Community Café (3429 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd). Help us prepare Thanksgiving stuffing kits so families in our community don’t go without a holiday meal. Note for younger volunteers: Volunteers under 16 won’t be handling bread cutting or kitchen tools, but we’ll have plenty of fun and important jobs like assembling spice packets, packaging stuffing, and cutting ribbon. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own knives and cutting boards! Dr. Joel Ying is a Physician-Storyteller-Educator in Naples, Florida. Stories, he will tell you, are medicine. You might get a dose in performance filled with sweet personal moments, salty humor, sour sadness, spicy folk tales or even bitter truth. It goes down with ease when it comes with a story. Dr. Joel teaches "Storytelling as Healing" to undergrads at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) and co-produces the FGCU Storytelling Series. He lives and practices medicine in Naples, Florida.
