Volunteer for Sidelines, a weekly support session designed to support FGCU R.I.S.E. students. (It stands for Real Independence, Successful Employment, a two-year program at FGCU for students with intellectual disabilities.) The event takes place every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., starting August 27th until December 3rd. Tentative location: Merwin Hall, Room 120. Each Sidelines session includes time for students to update their calendars with upcoming campus events and activities, complete homework with support, and participate in a reflective group discussion where they share their experiences and ideas. Traditional FGCU students can volunteer as peer partners during these sessions and help foster a welcoming and empowering environment. We currently serve two cohorts of R.I.S.E. students, with a total of 9 participants. Volunteers who attend and contribute to Sidelines will earn service-learning hours.
