Join FGCU’s Department of Environmental Health & Safety along with ECOFGCU - The Environmental Coalition of FGCU, the Florida Water Environment Association, Love Blue FGCU, the Florida Engineering Society and the Ornithology Club for a campus clean-up on 9am-11am Saturday November 8th. Note: you do not need to be a member of any of these groups to participate in this Service-Learning Volunteer event!    Participation is limited. RSVP here on EagleLink  You will be using the Litterati app to record data from the clean-up. Be sure to download the app and join the challenge prior to coming… and don’t forget to charge your phone! Safety is a priority when engaging in experiential service-learning opportunities.  Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes, bring a reusable filled water bottle, and use sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.). Meet us at FGCU’s Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS MOD)   Why Cleaning Up and Preventing Litter Is So Important: Not only can litter be unsightly, but much of the litter is made of plastic that does not biodegrade – it only breaks down into smaller bits of plastic that eventually washes out to our waterways via stormwater. Preventing litter is especially important here on campus because FGCU is located on a regional, interconnected watershed system that spills into the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve and joins the Gulf waters. Preventing litter and pollution helps make sure that our waterways remain clean to protect the environment and wildlife. It also keeps our stormwater system from clogging, which helps prevent flooding.   How to use the Litterati app to record data during the clean-up: Step 1 Download the Litterati app to your phone or device before arriving to the event Step 2 Join the FGCU Respect the Nest Challenge by using code: BLUE Step 3 Take a photo of litter where it is found, tag it (with object, material, and brand) and properly dispose of any litter you find.

Join FGCU Ornithology Club on a field trip to Amberjack Environmental Park, located near Englewood, FL. This is a site we have never visited as a club before, but it boasts a great number of bird species at all times of the year, including waterfowl, raptors, and many passerine species! We will provide carpooling, as it’s a bit of a hike. Please join our GroupMe or contact an Ornithology Club officer to coordinate your ride! Bring a snack, water, and a friend! Don't forget your birding gear.

The Cancer Alliance Network needs volunteers to help with the following tasks at our upcoming fundraiser: - Setup - Registration (must be tech-savvy and able to deal with multiple people at once) - Spotters to help record bidder numbers during the live auction - Escorting people to their tables - Assisting with take-down/cleanup   Volunteers could start as early as 1:00 PM for setup and 3:00 PM for registration.
