Gauthier fifth, Eagles in 10th after two rounds in Lubbock
Amelie Alcantara, Posie Farrelly and Lousiane Gauthier each shot a 76 (+4) as Florida Gulf Coast University took a stroke off its first round score with a 308 in the second round of the NCAA Women's Golf Lubbock Regional. FGCU sits in 10th on the team leaderboard, with Gauthier in fifth as an individual.
Gauthier continues to shine individually, sitting in fifth place at 145 (+1). With Wake Forest and Texas currently in position to qualify for the NCAA Championship as teams, Gauthier is in line to advance as an individual. The top individual not on a qualifying team earns a spot at the NCAA Championship final site.
She trails Carolina Chacarra of Wake Forest (-4), Farrah O'Keefe of Texas (-2), and Wake Forest's Macy Pate and Chloe Kovelesky (E).
First off the tee for FGCU Tuesday, Alcantara got the Eagles off to an ideal start with a birdie at the first hole. The Ocala, Florida native would card a 35 on the front side thanks to birdies at Nos. 6 and 9. Alcantara would close with a 41 on the back side to finish with a 76, five shots better than her opening round score.
Farrelly also had a big turnaround for FGCU. The senior from Lutz would bookend the turn with birdies at No. 9 and No. 10. She would also card a 76 on the round, recording 10 pars for the second round in a row.
Following her 69 Sunday, Gauthier played steady golf in Monday's opening round. The Uruguyan would card 14 pars in her round, finishing with a 76 to stay in the top five on the individual leaderboard.
FGCU's fourth score came from Leonie Wulfers, who turned in a score of 80 for the second day in a row. The German would record 11 pars in Monday's second round.
Islay Benoit added a birdie on No. 2 en route to an 82.
Wake Forest leads the team event by eight shots over Texas. The Demon Deacons are the only team at the regional to be at even par for the event. Iowa State and Arizona are 26 shots back in third, with UC Davis rounding out the top five.
The Eagles will tee off their final round at 10:55 a.m. CT from No. 10. Benoit will lead off for FGCU, followed by Wulfers, Alcantara, Farrelly and Gauthier in 11-minute intervals afterward.
