Gauthier completes first round at NCAA Championship
Lousiane Gauthier made history this morning, becoming the first golfer to tee off for Florida Gulf Coast University in a Division I championship as she played her first round at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship in Carsbad, California.
Gauthier played her first five holes in even-par, balancing two bogeys with two birdies. The Uruguayan would run into trouble on No. 6 which get her round off track. After finishing the front side with a 45, Gauthier responded with a birdie on No. 11 to pull back to 8-over for the round. After a series of pars, a double bogey at No. 17 and a bogey at the last would see Gauthier finish with an 83 (+11) for the opening round.
Scoring was tough as 46 of the 156 golfers that played the first round finished with a score over par.
The junior will tee off for her second round at 5:06 p.m. Eastern Time (2:06 p.m. local) from No. 10 on Saturday.
