Eagles tie for eighth at Inverness Intercollegiate
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf team took part in the Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, finishing the event in a tie for eighth place with Notre Dame behind a score of +66 as a team. The tournament was hosted by the University of Toledo at the Inverness Club and featured a field of 65 competitors from a dozen schools.
The Eagles progressively got better in each of the three rounds, turning in rounds of 26 and 21 on Monday before settling for a +19 on Tuesday. As a team, FGCU produced a total of 23 birdies for the tournament, including 10 on Tuesday alone.
Jordan Fischer was the top individual finisher for the Eagles, landing in a tie for 12th place after shooting a three-round total of 223 (+10). Sydney Deal tied for 30th, doing so with a score of 230 (+17), while Lousiane Gauthier tied for 39th at 233 (+20).
Fischer and Deal matched one another for the team lead in birdies with six.
Amelie Alcantara made her season debut and shot +25 over the last two days, including a trio of birdies in the final round, good enough to tie her for 48th place. Islay Benoit (239, +26) rounded out the scoring for FGCU, tying for 50th after birdying back-to-back holes in the final round.
The Eagles will head to South Carolina later this week to take part in Furman University's Lady Paladin Invitational. The event will be split over three days, beginning on Friday and wrapping up on Sunday afternoon.
