Men's golf earns at-large bid to Amherst Regional

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf earned an at-large bid Wednesday to compete in the 2025 NCAA Men's Golf Championship as a 10-seed in the Amherst Regional, hosted by Liberty in Amherst, Virginia, at Poplar Grove Golf Club.

Regionals begin May 12-14, and LSU is the No. 1 overall seed for the Amherst Regional. The full seeding for the regional can be seen below. Six 54-hole regional tournaments will determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals that will compete in the finals. The top five teams and the highest individual not on an advancing team at each regional will advance to the Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, on May 23-28.

Wednesday's at-large bid marks the second such bid that the men's golf program has earned and just the second time the Eagles will take part in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship as a team. FGCU sent an individual to represent the Green & Blue during the 2012, 2013, 2015, 2021 and 2024 championships.

The Eagles earned their first at-large bid in 2022 and placed 12th at the Columbus Regional. FGCU men's golf is the only team in FGCU Athletics history to have earned two at-large bids for NCAA postseason play, all under the direction of head coach Andrew Danna.

FGCU entered selection Wednesday ranked No. 56 overall with an 80-36-4 record and a resume still good enough to make the field after finishing third at the ASUN Championship. The Eagles have climbed as high as No. 48 this season, averaging 283.7 per round.

The Green and Blue posted six top-three finishes this season, including three runner-up performances. Five of its three top-three finishes occurred during the spring, and FGCU placed no lower than fifth in all but one event. The Eagles placed second at the SeaBest Invitational, and went back-to-back at The Johnnie-O at Sea Island and the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate. FGCU produced third-place efforts at the ASUN Championship, the Rod Myers Invitational and the Gators Invitational.

Fort Myers is home to two of the four highest-ranked golfers in the ASUN, freshman Nolan Harper and freshman Brett Moore are ranked third and fourth, respectively. Harper is averaging 71.3 per round and has one win, the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate, and three top-three efforts this season.

As a freshman, Moore broke the program record for the lowest 18-hole round with a 63. He is averaging 71.4 per round and has two-three three performances. Sophomore Sebastian Gamboa, an ASUN All-Tournament Selection, tied for second at the ASUN Championship and holds a team-low 71.0 average.
