Moore's 68 helps Eagles to fifth in Amherst
Spurred by a 2-under 68 from Brett Moore, Florida Gulf Coast University moved up to fifth place Monday on the team leaderboard at the NCAA Men's Golf Amherst Regional at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Virginia.
The Eagles sit one stroke ahead of Arkansas for the final qualifying spot to the NCAA Championship. FGCU is also just one stroke behind Arizona for fourth place with one round remaining.
With a team score of 283 (3 over) in the second round, the Eagles posted the third-best round of the day among the 12 teams.
Moore recorded FGCU's top countable score in the second round. He carded two birdies and a bogey on each side en route to his 68, parring 12 holes to jump 29 spots into a tie for 20th on the individual leaderboard.
After a 67 in Sunday's first round, Nolan Harper followed with an even-par 70 on Monday to sit in a tie for third individually. Harper tallied three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars.
Tom Scullion shot a 1-over 71 and is even for the tournament after a 69 on Sunday. He posted a team-low 33 on the front nine.
Sebastian Gamboa contributed FGCU's fourth score with a 74 and is 7 over for the tournament. He made three birdies in his second round.
Christian Figueredo improved by two strokes from Sunday with a 78.
Barring weather delays, the Eagles are scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the final round. They will start on No. 10 and be paired with Arizona and Arkansas.
