Service-Learning Immersion in the Real Florida Landscape

    This opportunity will explore functional ecosystems in Florida. Volunteers will learn why native plant communities are important and risk factors to creating and sustaining them and encouraging the creatures that rely on them. The work can be hard, but we see amazing things and learn together. If you like exploring and hands-on learning, this opportunity is screaming your name. If you don't, perhaps you should expand your horizons and check it out. The Florida Native Plant Society's mission is to preserve, conserve and restore native plants and native plant communities of Florida. River Oaks Preserve is approximately 12 acres owned by the Village of Estero and managed by The Coccoloba Chapter.   For more information, click HERE!   To sign up for this opportunity email rodakma@msn.com or simply show up on Sundays or Tuesdays at 9 am. Students must start at 9 am on the first time out. After that, they may work any times between 9 and 1 on Sundays and Tuesdays. Other days may also be available with prior approval.   Students who complete this event gain skills in Critical Thinking/Problem Solving, Teamwork/Collaboration, Leadership. This aligns with the following Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health and Well-being (3), Affordable and Clean Energy (7), Sustainable Cities and Communities (11), Life on Land (15).
