This is an innovative sports play program for children ages 2-7 with intellectual disabilities and their peers, designed to introduce them into the world of sports. The benefits to this program have been proven worldwide. First and foremost, these activities will help the children improve physically, cognitively and socially. This program will also raise awareness of the Special Olympics program and serve as an introduction to the resources and support available within Special Olympics Florida families, agencies and schools. Volunteers will act as play pals for children with/without disabilities for children between the ages of 2-7. The volunteers will need to be their 30 minutes before the start of the session for debrief, training and overview of the day. Volunteers will also need to stay 30 minutes after the session ends for clean up and reorganization. Volunteers are needed on Mondays and Wednesdays of June from 2:30-4:30 PM (2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 18th, 23rd, and 25th) Volunteers are asked to serve the entire time!   To sign up for this opportunity please click HERE.   Students who complete this event gain skills in Teamwork/Collaboration. FGCU Department of Justice Studies is looking for FGCU students who may be interested in acting as role players in Police Academy scenarios. This is an ongoing opportunity offered at different LCSO facilities from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Shifts may be offered but all day is preferred.
