- Mon, Sep 1Fun Time Early Childhood Academy Needs Volunteers for Labor Day 5K at Baker ParkWe’re looking for FGCU students to volunteer at the Labor Day 5K on Monday, September 1st from 7:00 AM–10:00 AM at Baker Park. This community race is hosted annually by Gulf Coast Runners, and Fun Time Early Childhood Academy is proud to be this year’s beneficiary. Volunteers will help with: - Event setup and breakdown - Water stations and snack tables - Distributing t-shirts and runner welcome bags - Cheering on runners along the route It’s a great way to get involved in the community, earn service-learning hours, and support early education in Collier County. About Fun Time Early Childhood Academy: Our mission is to provide affordable, high-quality early learning for underserved children from working families, preparing them for success in kindergarten and beyond. We serve children from infants through age 5 in a safe, nurturing, and education-focused environment while also offering support services to families. They are offering service learning hours to students who will assist in planning this event. This volunteer opportunity runs from September through November, with a weekly commitment of 2-4 hours required. Additional hours are available through support roles at our major career events. - Mon, Sep 1Share Your Skills – Teach Kids to Cook at The Salvation Army Youth CenterThe Salvation Army of Collier County Youth Center is seeking FGCU students to volunteer as culinary instructors for our after-school program. Our mission is to meet human needs without discrimination by offering programs that nurture the mind, body, and spirit. At the Youth Center, we provide a safe and supportive environment where children can develop new skills, build confidence, and explore creativity. What We Need: FGCU students to lead a one-hour prep time and one-hour after-school cooking class (3:00–5:00 PM) for elementary and middle school students. Volunteers will guide youth through simple, beginner-friendly recipes, promote healthy eating habits, and create a fun, hands-on learning experience. No professional cooking experience is required—just a passion for teaching and working with kids. - Mon, Sep 1Volunteers Needed for Youth Vault Financial Literacy Program with Advance the FaithAdvance the Faith is in need of FGCU students to serve at the Vault Financial Literacy Program that they run on a monthly basis at Oasis Youth Shelter. An emergency shelter for youth in crisis situations or who have recently been removed from an unsafe environment to be placed in foster care. Their faith-based program provides lessons and activities to teach basic financial literacy skills to empower high school students as they prepare for independent living. Volunteers assist staff with the program through set up, keeping track of participation points, assisting students, and helping teach lessons, if desired. Volunteers may select dates that they are available, as they do not have to attend all of the 5 sessions per month. Background checks are required. This program is run on a monthly basis of 5 sessions per month on Mondays and Wednesdays (dates vary each month on which 5 days). Volunteers are needed from 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM.
