Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society

8 members

We are proud to be the Gamma Mu Chapter of Delta Alpha Pi of Fort Myers!

Delta Alpha Pi (ΔΑΠ) is an international honor society for college students with disabilities. We recognize students overcoming the challenges of their disabilities and achieve academic excellence.  Our purpose is to educate students about all the options/opportunities available to them and educate society to end negative stigma associated with disability.  Join us in the fight to educate about disability, end adverse stigma, and create an aDAPtable world!!!

The three Greek letters have specific meaning...

Delta D is for Disability.  The Delta triangle symbolizes strength, used to overcome the challenges inflicted by disability.  Members of Delta Alpha Pi demonstrate strength as leaders on campus to help break down the barriers of negativism and reduce stigma.  They serve as mentors and role models for other students with disabilities.

Alpha A is for Achievement and Advocacy.  Alpha means beginning and represents the importance of academic achievement, and always making academics the first priority.  It also embodies advocacy because students must advocate for themselves first before they can advocate for others.  Members of Delta Alpha Pi enhance their advocacy skills for themselves and for the rights of all individuals with disabilities.

Pi P is for Pride.  We take pride in academic achievement and in other accomplishments, not just as students with disabilities, but as members of the university community.  Pi is a mathematical symbol that we all learned to use in elementary arithmetic classes, so Pi is an appropriate symbol to represent education.  Members of Delta Alpha Pi participate in activities designed to educate the community and society regarding the need to apply the principles of universal design in learning.
