Accounting is the “language of business”. Knowledge of accounting is essential in a number of related fields and this creates numerous career options for accounting majors.
There are many different positions in the accounting field. Careers range from entry level to upper management. Many accounting majors advance to senior management positions, become partners in accounting practices or even become chief financial officers of companies. Others use their accounting knowledge to help them become successful in related fields such as finance, law and education.
Its principles are crucial to a wide range of applications, from government and industry to aiding the public and service organizations. Technical competence as well as business professional skills are basic requirements in this field.

- Mon, Sep 29Meet the Firms - Volunteer (Service-Learning)Support FGCU’s premier accounting event while earning service-learning hours! Volunteers are needed to assist with the setup, operation, and breakdown of Meet the Firms, hosted by the Department of Accounting in the Lutgert College of Business. Volunteer Roles Include: Event Setup: Assist with arranging tables, laying tablecloths, and preparing the check-in station (11am-1pm) Check-In Support: Greet students, mark attendance, and distribute nametags (1pm-4:30pm) Event Breakdown: Help remove decorations, fold tablecloths, break down tables, and clean up the space (4:30pm-5:30pm) Date: Monday, September 29, 2025Location: FGCU Cohen Student Union BallroomShifts Available: Morning, Afternoon, and Post-Event After you RSVP, you'll be able to indicate which task(s) and time frame(s) you're available to assist with.
