New Beginnings

An update for the '21-'22 academic year

As we have fought through the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic that struck us during the Spring semester of 2020 we have struggled to prosper in the enviroment that crumbled from beneath itself. We all knew coming into this year would be different, and different indeed it was, which is why I feel that it is time to rebirth and grow to our largest potential. It is critical that we gather as much involvement as possible to be able to achieve the goals and expectations that has been implied. Myself, Dr. Marcia Taylor, and Mrs. Jennifer McGurk have big plans for the future of this organization and we cannot do this without you!

To start, we ask that everyone try to spread the word as much as possible for the organization, we want to be able to recruit active members for the upcoming school year, and we need your help in doing so. Teamed up with different organizations it is my goal to make us one of the more active groups on campus not only within the School of Hospitality but within the local Southwest Florida community. Seeing as the local economy and businesses of Southwest Florida were the ones who supported the creation of the school, it is important that we remember our beginnings and take them with us for the future.

This may seem like an ambitious goal, but I am confident that we will be able to complete this goal, and even surpass it. I want our organization to spread its wings and soar, and as I mentioned earlier, we cannot do this without your help. I also want to ensure that our membership spreads across all of the Sudgen School of Resort and Hospitality Management, because no matter what concentration or major one has within the school, every student within Sudgen has a place in this organization. The Hospitality Management Associationwas found on the principles of bettering ourselves and the establishments around us to make them flourish, and here with HMA we hope to be able to help educate and empower the future leaders that will come from this program, all while making numerous connections that can be beneficial for us all within our careers.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to myself, Mrs. Jennifer McGurk, or Dr. Marcia Taylor for more information or any questions you may have regarding membership. Please also follow our new Instagram @fgcu.hma

Thank you all!
