Serving Hertz Arena and Southwest Florida Community

Our home rink, Hertz Arena, became a safe haven for victims who were devastated by Hurricane Ian, and FGCU Ice Hockey Club members sprung into action to rebuild the Southwest Florida community.

Category 4 Hurricane Ian had a major impact on the Southwest Florida Community. Our home ice rink, Hertz Arena used its facilities to shelter victims who were devasted by the severe storm. FGCU Ice Hockey Club members wholeheartedly contributed to the efforts made by Hertz Arena employees to restore a sense of normalcy for hurricane victims. This particular project involved gutting a house on the Caloosahatchee river that housed seven mentally retarded individuals. Thankfully all residents and caregivers of the house evacuated before the six feet of flooding and strong winds. The demolition job took six FGCU Hockey Club members 5 hours of efficient well-coordinated efforts to clear the residence of moldy drywall, soaked insulation, and buckets of flood debris.
