Area Council Applications for the 2024-2025 School Year Are Open!

If you're a student who wants to see more fun and engaging opportunities and/or meaningful changes in your housing community or neighborhood, your Area Council is the perfect place to get involved!

Have you ever thought about hosting an event that is something you completely planned with a group or on your own? Want to host events that are specifically catered to your housing community or neighborhood? 

Area Councils are the perfect place to get started. Brought to you by the Resident Housing Association, Area Councils are a way for you to earn service learning hours while also enhancing your leadership skills. Area Councils are housed within all nine housing communities on campus: Biscayne Hall, Everglades Hall, Palmetto Hall, Eagle Hall, Osprey Hall, the Gardens Neighborhood, the Glades Neighborhood, and the Groves Neighborhood. 

*Area Councils are available to all students who live within on-campus housing. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT ASSISTANT TO JOIN! In fact, if you were an RA, you would not be able to join, but you can request funding for different events/programs. Email us if you have any questions about that.*

Not only would you be able to advocate for yourself, but you will also be able to speak for your community. There are various positions within Area Councils. We have open positions for President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Delegate spots (up to 10).

Below we have information on each position:

  • President: Handles the execution of meetings, coordinates meeting times, and reaches out to council members
  • Vice President: Keeps meetings on track, schedules events, and represents your housing community during weekly Board of Governors meetings
  • Secretary: Transcribes minutes during council meetings, and design marketing material for events
  • Treasurer: Manages the budget, and handles financial inquiries
  • Delegate: Votes on bills presented during council meetings, participates in meetings, and attends events

*For all of these positions, RHA has the tools for you to succeed. We have templates and our own personal experience with Area Council. Please do not let your lack of knowledge stop you from being in something great!*
