Danielle Davis- Vice President
Carissa Fox- Treasurer
Michelle Botsford- Secretary
Jackie Anderson- Historian #1
Alexis Lucin- Historian #2
Also, a big congratulation to Annie Newton for being selected to receive the Honors Stole this semester!
I’d like to present upcoming service learning opportunities to everyone.
·         On Tuesday, January 7th we will be updating our board for the spring semester. It is located on the main stairwell of Merwin Hall. If you would like to help and earn a few hours of service learning we will meet at 4:30pm. Also, if you have any decorating ideas feel free to share them!
·         On Saturday, January 11th the Bonita Bay Resident Wildlife Sponsors have been invited to work at the Golisano Children’s museum in Naples to have a booth and work with young children teaching them about butterflies and dragonflies. We could work with children reading books about insects and/or make crafts that pertain to butterflies or dragonflies. Volunteers could also do some teaching since the materials the adult members of BBRWS will be using were designed by some of Dr. Finley’s students. If you are interested in this opportunity please email myself or Dr. Finley for more information. This would be an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with children!
·         On Saturday, February 1st there are service learning opportunities for the 5K that Danielle has organized. It is calledTyler and Jason’s 1st Annual 5K for Cerebral Palsy. Here is the Facebook link to the event:https://www.facebook.com/TylerAndJasons5kRun. Here is the link to sign up for service learning hours:http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/1238242840088. Finally, here is the link to register if you would like to run or walk in 5K: http://www.active.com/cape-coral-fl/running/races/tyler-and-jason-s-5k-run-2014.
·         Oak Hammock Middle School is looking for AVID tutors. Tutors work with small groups of students helping to lead their tutoring sessions. AVID tutors are facilitators and mentors who ask questions to help guide students in the right direction. This would be a great way to earn service learning hours fast as well as gain experience in the teaching field.
We have one job opportunity.
·         Varsity Lakes Middle School is still looking for an AVID tutor who can work on both Thursdays and Fridays from 9:15-4:00. Pay is $10 an hour. The teacher is fantastic and the students this year are wonderful. From personal experience, it doesn’t even feel like a job because we have so much fun! Please send me an email if you are interested.
We have a number of new events we are planning to implement in the Spring semester!
·         We would like everyone to take this survey to help us determine the most popular meeting times for next semester and if you are interested in a new mentoring program through Eagles Educate. The mentoring program will consist of students in blocks 4 and 5, or recent graduates paired with students in blocks 1, 2 and 3. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/D335X35
·       The first meeting of the Spring semester is tentatively planned for Tuesday, January 21st at 8:00pm. We have put in a room request but confirmation will not be until after add/drop week.
Please email me if you are interested in any of the opportunities listed above. I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday break!
