Mangrove Nursery Volunteer Day

The FGCU Fishing Club partnered with MANG to plant over 11,500 mangroves!

On Saturday, September 4th, 17 members from the Fishing Club volunteered for a mangrove nursery day, which was hosted by the organization, MANG. During this 4-hour event, which was from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, club members worked hard by filling up seeding trays, potting seeds, and transferring them into the nursery area.

Mangroves are extremely important for our environment and waterways, as they provide aquatic species with homes, food, and oxygenated water. Additionally, mangroves help reduce storm surge and flooding in coastal neighborhoods. Because of these factors, our club makes it a priority to make a difference and help support mangrove restoration in our state!
