Mon, Apr 6General Body Meeting - Dr. Joyce Fassbender Presents Nature Journaling!Join us for a tutorial in Nature Journaling, presented by entomologist Dr. Joyce Fassbender! Bring a notebook to try it out, and allow us to provide additional materials for you. Nature Journaling allows for naturalists to record their observations, musings, and questions about the natural world in a creative way! Learn how to put your own spin on it with Dr. Fassbender. And keep these skills handy, as you might just use them on the BioBlitz on Friday, April 10th!
Fri, Apr 10FGCU BioBlitz (Spring 2026)Join us in our celebration of our campus wildlife on April 10th, from 7:30am-1:30pm! Join faculty members on guided hikes, where you’ll be documenting every species you encounter on the trails. This includes plants, invertebrates, vertebrates, fungi, and more! We’ll be utilizing the app iNaturalist to compile the data for the day, which will give us our total counts and could be used in later projects! Faculty will be highlighting certain groups of organisms throughout the day. Stay posted with our social media (@fgcuornithologyclub on Instagram) to see who will be featured! Can’t make it to our event? No problem — the iNaturalist project will be open 24 hours on April 10th. Any organisms documented in campus bounds will be included in the counts. Between hikes, we will be stationed in front of Academic Building 9, in the courtyard. Our tables will feature specimens we collect throughout the day. Last year this included beautiful plant life, fish, and a Two-toed Amphiuma! If you plan to attend, bring water, sun protection, and comfortable shoes. Don’t forget your cameras, binoculars, and your friends! Please stop by to check in with us for attendance before going on your hikes. Any questions about our event? Are you a faculty member interested in leading a hike? Contact Mercedes, President of FGCU Ornithology Club: mmroesler2120@eagle.fgcu.edu
